Scott Rene Welcome

Scott Rene Welcome, beloved son, brother, uncle, friend, and chef, passed away unexpectedly on May 29, 2026, at the age of 36. Scott was born on August 15, 1989, in Seattle, Washington, to Dale and Joy Welcome. From an early age Scott was full of energy, creativity, affection and athleticism. He loved nothing more than riding his bike, throwing a ball or jumping down a staircase. His family moved to Newberg, Oregon in 1992 where he attended Zion Lutheran preschool followed by elementary school at Antonia Crater. He played soccer and was catcher for his Little League baseball teams, learned to swim and took piano lessons. These were somewhat of a trial as he primarily wanted to be playing outside. In 2000 his family moved to Draper, Utah where he attended school and became an exceptional snowboarder. He loved skateboarding and spent many hours riding at local skateparks. He began developing his photographic and artistic talents, sketching nature mostly through pen and ink. Scott had his first job while in high school working in a local restaurant. From there his career expanded to working with many exceptional chefs throughout the Pacific Northwest. Whether in a restaurant kitchen, catering a special event, sharing a meal with friends, or preparing dinner for his family, Scott found joy and purpose in experimenting and creating memorable food experiences. As a chef, he expressed creativity, generosity, and care through meals he prepared. Cooking was more than a profession for Scott—it was one of the ways he showed love, gratitude, and hospitality to those around him. Scott is survived by his parents, Dale and Joy Welcome; his brother, Douglas (Rose) Welcome of Tracy, California, sister Clara Welcome of San Diego, California; nephews Reuben, Oliver and Elliott Welcome, grandfather Stanley D Kern of Newberg, Uncles Kyle (Suzanne) Kern of Newberg, Jerry (Valerie) Welcome of Melbourne, Florida and John (Nike) Kern of Winter Park Florida; Aunts Evelyn (Richard) Walsh of Turners Falls, MA and Laurie (John) Lieggi of Newberg. cousins Jakin and Bella Lieggi, Madeleine (Dylan) Farnsworth and Arianna Kern, Alexandra Altstadt, Chris (Jesse) Walsh, Tim (Marsha) Walsh, Vanessa Welcome and Samantha Welcome. Scott was preceded in death by his precious cousin Tristan Kern and his beloved German Shepherd, Harper. His bond with Harper reflected many of Scott's own qualities: affection, loyalty, protectiveness, and an unwavering devotion to those he loved. Scott was loved and will be missed by many. His life was marked by generosity, creativity, and genuine care for others. The kindness he shared, the meals he prepared, and the lives he touched leave a legacy and he will be missed beyond words. As Scott’s parents, we were blessed to have Scott as our son, and we will carry his memory with us every day. I was Hungry and you fed me, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was homeless and you gave me a room, I was shivering and you gave me clothes, I was sick and you stopped to visit me, I was in prison and you came to me… Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me – you did it to me.
