Nancy Jane Dodson (1955–2025) Nancy Jane Dodson, 69, of Lebanon, Oregon, passed away peacefully at her home in Newberg on February 5, 2025. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Nancy was known for her unwavering love for family and her gift for making memories with those closest to her. Born in 1955 on her family’s farm in Lebanon, Oregon, Nancy was the cherished daughter of Paul and Martha Hurst. She spent her early years helping her father around the farm, actively participating in her church and youth group, and forming lifelong friendships. She graduated from Lebanon High School in 1973 before attending Chemeketa Community College. She eventually earned her associate's degree at Vernard Bible College in Iowa. Nancy held various jobs, but the role she cherished most was becoming a stay-at-home mother in 1978—a lifelong dream come true. Nancy met Steven Dodson in 1975 while at Chemeketa through mutual friends. In a bold and memorable moment, she asked him on their first date while he was working a shift at Taco Bell. Their love story quickly blossomed, and they were married in 1976 in Salem, Oregon, eager to build a life together. Together, Nancy and Steve built a family that became the center of their world. They welcomed their children—Benjamin, Jonathan, Rachel, Hannah, and Elizabeth—into a home filled with warmth, faith, and laughter. While Nancy loved being a mother, her greatest joy came from being a grandmother. As "Nana," she delighted in spoiling her grandchildren, making holidays magical, and selecting the perfect gifts for every occasion. Nancy’s friendships were a cornerstone of her life. Whether sharing coffee, hosting Bible studies, or walking through life’s joys and challenges, she and her friends were always there for one another. Her faith was central to everything she did. She was a devout member of the Free Methodist denomination. She attended Saints’ Hill in Newberg, dedicating her time to spreading the gospel and ensuring that everyone she met felt the love of Jesus. Nancy will be forever remembered for her kindness, her wisdom, and the way she brought people together. Her laughter, guidance, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Martha Hurst. She is survived by her beloved husband, Steve, her five children, and her cherished grandchildren. A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held on February 15, 2025, at Northside Community Church in Newberg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fundacion la Mision in her honor.
