Michael Alan Craig

Michael Alan Craig passed away on February 10th 2024 at his place of residence in Newberg Oregon. He was a loving father of 6 kids, devoted husband to his late wife, and a cherished friend to many. Born on 11/4/1957 in Newberg Oregon, Mike’s biggest joys growing up were being outdoors and spending time with his siblings. He always said “we didn’t have much but we had each other.” Mike graduated from Newberg High school in 1975. In 1982, he began serving his country in the United States Navy, where he demonstrated unwavering commitment and skill. He was a sonar technician and proudly served on the USS Kinkaid (DD-965), USS Vincennes (CG-49), & USS Antietam (CG-54). His service was marked by professionalism, integrity, and a deep sense of duty. Mike served for 20 years and was a proud veteran who involved himself in the Newberg American Legion and VFW. Always serving his country. In addition to his naval service, Mike found solace and joy in woodworking. His garage was his sanctuary, where he meticulously transformed raw materials into works of art, each piece reflecting his passion and attention to detail. He shared his love for woodworking with his family and friends. He also enjoyed camping, fishing and other outdoor activities with his family. He was always a child at heart, enjoying humor, cartoons and the classic dad joke. Michael Alan Craig is survived by his beloved children Matthew, Melissa, Taressa, Tavita, Cheyenne & Wanda, grandchildren, and other relatives and friends. Although he is survived by many, he now gets to spend eternity with the love of his life, his late wife Julie Evelyn Craig who passed away in 2017. A funeral service will be held on what would have been Mike and Julie’s 37th anniversary on March 7th at Willamette National Cemetery at 1pm. Both their Ashes will be interred together. A separate memorial service will be on March 9th in Newberg honoring his life and Julie’s. Michael Alan Craig will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, both for his service to his country and his big heart. He was a goofy, caring man who was loved by many. “Fair winds and following seas”
