Marcella Lulu Halstead

Marcella L. (Judes) Halstead was born on April 13, 1923 along with her twin brother, Merle, in Sauk Centre, MN to Carl Henry Judes and Dorothea (Bruns) Judes. They joined a brother, Marvin and a few years later welcomed a brother, Darwin. They worked hard on their dairy farm. Marcella was proud of her 4-H work. She met Paul Halstead and they dated for seven years before he went off to war in Europe. Marcella moved to Oregon to work in the shipyards. When Paul returned from the war in August 1945, they were married at Grove Lake, MN and then moved to Dundee, OR. They lived in the Dundee-Newberg area their entire married life. Paul and Marcella were married for 46 years before he passed away in March 1991. She was a life-long Lutheran and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sherwood for about 72 years. They had seven children. Marcella stayed home to raise their children and when Gail, the youngest, started first grade, she began working at Tektronix in Beaverton where she worked for 25 years. Paul and Marcella enjoyed playing cards, traveling in their small RV to visit family and friends around the United States plus a few trips to Europe. Marcella was also very active in the American Legion Auxiliary. Marcella died on March 24, 2018 under the loving care of The Springs Memory Care in Sherwood and Hospice. She is survived by her children: Alan (Leni), Russell (Alice) Ronald (Wendy) and Linda (Bruce) Lowe all of Newberg/Sherwood Area, Donna Boswell of Salem, Gail (Paul) Hein of Loveland, CO, and daughter-in-law Dawn of McMinnville. 16 grandchildren: Jon, Robert, Michael, Alyssa, Erik, Alexander, Andrew, and Marjorie Halstead, Heidi Young, Aimee Boswell-Rea, Kristin Boswell, Brian Lowe, Sarah Later, Elizabeth Van Dam and Michael Ward. 22 great-grandchildren: Ian, Margaret, Anders, Maranda, Benjamin, Sophia, Jaden, Jocelyn, Carter and Kaia Halstead, Gavin Young, Elijah Boswell, Abraham and Emmett Rea, Alex Rea, Abby and Izzy Lowe, Ellis, Taelon and Dawson Van Dam, Cecelia Wolthausen and Theodore Ward. She also had many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, son Gary, grandson Kyle Lowe and 3 brothers, Merle, Marvin and Darwin Judes. The celebration of her life will be at 1:00 on April 7, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sherwood, OR. Memorials to St. Paul Lutheran Women’s Bible Group, Concordia University, Newberg Toy and Joy , Lutheran World Relief or Charity of Choice.
