Joseph Albert Bushbaum

Joseph Albert Bushbaum (Joe) passed away JULY 31, 2017 at Meadow Creek Care Center in Salem, Oregon at the age of 89. Joe is survived by his children Ron (Loretta) Bushbaum, Ellensburg, WA, Paul Bushbaum, Salem, OR, Karen Herrenbruck, Moscow, ID, Joanne (Ralph) Holmes, Colton, OR, Maryellen (Dave) Clark, Salem, OR, Rose Bushbaum, Henderson, NV and John (Kim) Bushbaum, Willamina, OR. He is survived by 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, his sisters Leona Bushbaum, Martha McNamee, Doris Beckette and Dolores Fullmer. Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Rosemary Bushbaum, his son Joseph Bushbaum, son in law Wayne Herrenbruck, sisters Florence Chaney and Virginia King. Joe was born on November 24, 1927 in Sherwood, Oregon to Raymond and Margaret (Malsom) Bushbaum. He graduated from Tigard High School in 1945. Joe and Rosemary met and were married at St. Cyril’s Catholic Church in Wilsonville, OR on October 2, 1948. Joe and Rosemary built a home in Tualatin, OR, where they lived for 55 years. Joe began working for Oregon Portland Cement when he was 17 years of age. After working there for a few years he joined the Merchant Marines and served as a clerk stationed in Japan. Upon returning to the U.S. he continued his employment at Oregon Portland Cement Company, as a Control Room Operator until his retirement. Joe and Rosemary welcomed 8 children into their home and set about teaching them the importance of family. His children remember him as a devoted father who encouraged them to pursue their goals. He enjoyed fishing, sports, camping, photography, traveling, reading, playing pinochle, his computer and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Joe loved to laugh and enjoyed a good joke. He could almost always be seen with a smile on his face and his grandchildren remember him for his sense of humor and distinguishing laughter. He was especially dedicated to his older sister Leona. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and it was important to him to learn new things. Joe always enjoyed hearing stories that were related to his grandchildren and the adventures of his family and friends adventures. In his early years Joe spent time working on televisions. Later in life he loved his computer and photography class. He also was curious and well-read, keeping up with current events, his favorite sports teams and learning more about world history. Joe was an active and dedicated member of the St. Cyril’s Parish in Wilsonville, Oregon and was involved in the Knights of Columbus. A funeral is scheduled for Friday, August 4 at 11:00 am at St. Cyril’s Parish with a reception to follow at the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Shriners Hospital for Children in Portland, Oregon, or Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, Oregon.
