Ellen Louise Schoenborn

Ellen Louise Jeffryes Schoenborn Roluffs was born on June 19, 1941, in Eugene, Oregon. She passed away peacefully at her home on August 20, 2026 in Newberg, Oregon. Ellen was a beloved wife, mother of four, grandmother to 14 and great-grandmother of 4. She loved her family well and served them in many ways throughout her life. She was strong in her faith and saw God’s faithfulness and provision in every season of her life. She desired that her family would love God’s Word and know Jesus. She believed it was important to be a good steward of God’s gifts and to share with those less fortunate. Ellen was born to Milo Harold and Jesse Ellen Jeffyres in Eugene. She spent time caring for younger sisters, and helping with cooking and sewing. A highlight of her high school years was winning the Oregon state cherry pie baking championship. She received a free trip on a Union Pacific Train to Chicago to compete in the national contest. She graduated from Willamette High School in Eugene in 1958. She served as the National FHA Secretary (Future Homemakers of America). Ellen married Roger Schoenborn on September 10, 1960 in Eugene. Ellen received her college degree in Home Economics Education from Oregon State University in 1964. She had four children: Cynthia (Cindy) Kaye, Scott Ellis, Eric Jon and Jonathan Karl. They lived on property in Knappa, Oregon for most of the years they raised their family. Ellen and her family attended First Lutheran Church in Astoria. She taught Sunday school and led 4-H cooking and sewing groups. Her family appreciated her baking and cooking skills as they enjoyed many pies—the family favorite being marionberry-as well as her dinner rolls and cinnamon rolls. She substitute taught at both the local elementary and high school in addition to caring of her family and volunteering. She relocated to Portland when Roger took a new position with Portland Public Schools. She had more time to pursue her passion for tole painting and to participate in Bible Study Fellowship. She painted many items for her home and family, and especially enjoyed painting nativity sets and Christmas ornaments. After nine years in Portland, they were able to retire and returned to Knappa. They were married a few months short of 40 years when Roger passed away. Ellen relocated a year later to Newberg, Oregon. She married Charles (Chuck) Roluffs on February 6, 2005. She supported Chuck as he continued in part-time ministry as a retired pastor. They became members of Zion Lutheran Church in Newberg. Ellen participated in the church quilting ministry and also helped with Monday night meals for the community. Chuck & Ellen were married 21 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Ellis Schoenborn and sister, Marilyn Kay Kuhls. Surviving family members include her husband Charles Roluffs (Chuck); daughter, Cynthia (Cindy) & husband Brent; son, Scott, wife Beth ; son, Eric, wife Suzanne and son, Jonathan (Jon), wife Cathy. Also surviving are her sisters Jeanette Harbert, Joan Lacey and stepsister Carol Fahy. Surviving grandchildren include Ryan and Mikayla (Cindy); Kelly, Katie, Kristin, Kent and Kyle (Scott); Konner and Courtney (Eric) and Mariah, Natalie, Rachel, Abigail and Josiah (Jon). Surviving great-grandchildren include Sonny (7), Easton (5), Baruch (4) and Beckham (2). Viewing will be held from 2-4 pm on September 9th at Attrell’s Funeral Home in Newberg OR. A graveside service will be held at Prairie Cemetery in Knappa (92868 Knappa Dock Rd., Astoria, OR 97103) on September 10th at 1 pm. A casual gathering will follow at Knappa Assembly of God Church. Celebration of Life service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Newberg on September 26th at 1 pm. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in remembrance of Ellen to Love INC.
