Alejo Manuel Jaureguizar

Alejo Manuel Jaureguizar, known as Al, was born on March 1, 1955, in Havana, Cuba. In 1961, at age six, Al and his family immigrated to the United States to escape communism. After a brief stay in Miami, they settled in the Portland/Beaverton area, where Al would spend the rest of his life. Al graduated from Jesuit High School in 1973, where he forged lifelong friendships. His first job at Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlor fit his joyful spirit, and he became known for his talent in flipping ice cream sundaes. Cars were Al's passion. He not only owned and rebuilt several vehicles but also turned this love into a career, working as a mechanic for various companies. Eventually, he opened his own auto repair shop, becoming a trusted and beloved figure in the community. In 1982, Al married Susie. Together, they raised a son, Alejo Jr., and a daughter, Katrina Alicia. Although Al and Susie later parted ways, they remained close friends. Al's love for his children was immense, and he took great pride in their achievements and the families they built. His four grandchildren Lucy, Iris, Violet and Ruby were the light of his life. Al was more than a skilled mechanic; he was a man with a big smile, a generous heart, and a zest for life. His love for the Portland Trail Blazers was legendary, often sharing the joy of the game with friends and family. Al's legacy is one of dedication, love, and kindness, leaving behind cherished memories and a community enriched by his presence. Al was preceded in death by his parents, Alejo and Valentina, and his youngest brother. He is survived by his brother Carlos, his children, Alejo Jr. and Katrina Alicia, his four adored grandchildren, and countless friends and family members who will forever hold him in their hearts. Al's spirit lives on in the stories shared, the laughter remembered, and the love he freely gave. Rest in peace, Al. Your life was a testament to the strength of family, the power of passion, and the joy of living fully. You will be deeply missed, but your legacy will continue to inspire all who knew you.
