Phyllis R. Chaney

January 25, 1924 - April 19, 2012

Phyllis R. Chaney Born Margaret Phyllis Redenbacher on January 25, 1924 in Mulberry, Indiana, she has always been called “Phyllis.” The family moved to Sherwood, Oregon when she was one year old, where she remained through high school (Sherwood, Class of 1941) and business college, working in the office at M & M (Malarkey & Malarkey) Woodworking. She married James E. Chaney in 1947, and had two children before returning to the workforce at Oregon Brass Works for 33 years. Phyllis returned to her childhood home in Sherwood upon her mother Mary’s passing in 1987, and lived there until her own passing on April 19, 2012 at age 88. She loved the outdoors, the Oregon Coast, Hawaii and was active in hiking, white water rafting, camping and gardening. In her later years, she was active in the Sherwood Senior Center, and was a Sherwood Library Board member for years. In recent years her favorite pastimes were reading and attending local plays. Phyllis is survived by her daughter Janet (Dennis) Kent of Miloli’i, Hawaii, and her son David (Darcy) Chaney of Portland, Oregon, four grandchildren, Robert Edwards (Brandi), Mike Chaney (Jen), Jeff Chaney and Andrew Chaney, and five great-grandchildren.
