Patricia Ruth Peyton

May 31, 1926 - July 22, 2013

In Loving Memory Patricia Ruth (Doolittle) Peyton May 31, 1926 – July 22, 2013 In the 16th year of their marriage, Charles and Myrtle Doolittle, welcomed the arrival of their only child, Patsy Ruth. Her ready smile, engaging blue eyes and inquisitive mind constantly brought joy to their Newberg home. Patsy Ruth graduated with honors from Newberg High School and continued her education at Oregon State University. There she met Harold Ray Peyton, the one and only man she would ever love. They were married in Klamath Falls, OR in June, 1950. Pat’s adventerous nature was evident through out her entire life: Working in the Portland ship yards during WWII as a welder’s helper; embarking from Oregon to Alaska battling the barely drivable Alcan Highway with a 1 and 2 yr. old in the cab of a pickup truck; cheerfully living, literally, a stone’s throw from the Arctic Ocean in a Quonset hut with honey buckets in the bathrooms and hot plates in the kitchen; driving by herself with two young sons from Texas to Alaska; purchasing an acreage so sons could raise sheep; 70 years young joining her children on a tent camping/kayaking trip on Keku Island of Alaska; and traveling nationally and internationally with close friends on many educational excursions. Most important to Pat was her relationship with people. Her calm demeanor and innate ability to see the humor and positive side of any situation was appreciated by all those who knew her. At all times her family came first. Her children and extended family knew they would always be encouraged, supported and equally loved. Her friends were of all ages and backgrounds. Her 50 year involvement with PEO gave her many opportunities to learn new things, utilize her many talents and maintain significant friendships. Her love of learning, especially through books, was evident in her extensive personal library. For several years she participated with the Friends of the Library organization, assisting in the raising of funds for the Newberg Public Library. She greatly valued the education of children and youth through literature and the fine arts. She remained fully present, engaged and curious to the very end. Pat’s life was truly well lived. She loved and was loved by many. She will be missed. In lieu of flowers please send donations to: George Fox College, or Portland Youth Philharmonic. Remembering her delight in life, please consider wearing colorful garments at her Celebration of Life Service at Attrell’s Funeral Chapel, Newberg, Oregon on Saturday, Sept 28 at 2:00 .
