Leta Lou Holcombe

August 10, 1930 - August 4, 2016

Leta L Holcombe was born in Falls City, OR on August 10th, 1930 to Tom and Margarite Coulson. She grew up in Tualatin where she attended grade school, then went to the Sherwood schools for her junior high & high school years. Leta met her husband John F. Holcombe in old town Sherwood and they were married on May 28th, 1948, the day she graduated from high school. Leta worked at the GAF/Viewmaster plant in Progress for a number of years and was also employed through the Sherwood School District as a custodian from 1974-1975. Leta spent the rest of her working years delivering mail in Tualatin in her bright blue Bronco where she retired from in the early '90's. She loved caring for her grandchildren, spending time with her family and working in her yard. Her other passion was keeping all the feeders filled for the abundant birds. She enjoyed hosting Thanksgiving each year and baking pies for all of the family and friends. Leta was also a member of the Norwood Bible Church for many years. Our mom was a very gracious and kind woman, always putting others needs before hers. She always had a smile on her face, always had words of encouragement for her kids and loved her family like no other. Leta Holcombe passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 4th, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband John F. Holcombe. Leta is survived by son Randy & daughter-in-law, Beverly Holcombe of Prineville, daugher Nancy & son-in-law, Lauren Nelson of Sherwood and daughter Norma Holcombe of Lake Oswego; 4 grandchildren; Aron Nelson of Sherwood, Rebecca Nelson of Sherwood, Kristopher Holcombe of Amity and Stacey Holcombe of Newberg; 7 great grandchildren; sister Mildred Hasel of Pinehurst, CA & numerous nieces & nephews. Services were held at 10:00 August 12th at Attrell's Funeral Chapel in Newberg. Donations to honor her can be made to the Audubon Society of Portland.
