Leila Aurelia McGinnis Leila Aurelia McGinnis was born the daughter of W. Howard and Katherine (Grauer) Matherly on Sunday, January 25, 1925 in Newberg, Oregon. Leila lived her entire life in Newberg, attending the local grade schools and graduating from Newberg High school in 1942. In September of 1943 she married her high school sweetheart, Thomas F. McGinnis in San Francisco, California. She worked at US National Bank in Newberg and later as a purchasing agent for Sartron in Newberg for 21 years. Leila was a former member and past President of the VFW Auxiliary and former member if Vesta Rebekah Lodge No. 76. She was a volunteer with the Newberg Charitable Organization for over 13 years working in the gift shop at both the old and new Newberg Hospitals. She also knitted baby sweaters for sale in the gift shop along with her good friend, Nadine McLain. Her hobbies included reading, gardening, and she excelled at sewing and all forms of needlework. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and was much loved by all who knew her. On Saturday, January 29, 2011, Leila Aurelia McGinnis died at Portland Care Center when she was eighty-six years, zero months and four days of age. Surviving and left to honor her life are: Her son Tim and his wife Stacy and their sons Donovan and Sean; daughter Kim Ferrell and her husband Jeff and their sons Todd and Greg; daughter Molly Wright and her husband Brian; three great grandsons Logan, Ashton, and Enzo Ferrell; two great granddaughters Tieler and Jasmin Ferrell and those who have come to know and appreciate her where she has lived and worked. Leila was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Thomas F. McGinnis in 1995 and her daughter, Kathye McCullough in 2008. At Leila’s request her services will be private at Valley View memorial Park in Newberg. Arrangements are being made for a future memorial gathering to honor her life.
