June Lorraine Barrow

June 12, 1919 - February 10, 2016

Obituary for June Barrow June Barrow was called home to be with Jesus on February 10, 2016. June was 96 years old and residing under the watchful care of Ron and Diane Still in Roseburg, Oregon. June was born June 12, 1919 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Margariete and Calvin Bryant. At the age of 6 months she moved with her mother to Northern Minnesota to live with her grandmother who homesteaded there after selling their bakeshop in Minneapolis. June’s mother remarried Carl Lindstrom and they had 3 daughters Eileen, Lorine and Martha. The harsh winters of Minnesota were routine for June. She would reminisce about the joy of skiing to school on cold winter mornings. At 17 June married Roy Barrow. They had three children: Joyce, Judy and Ronald who passed away June 5, 1954 at the age of 12. June and Roy moved out to Oregon in 1940. She recalled the struggle of packing up what little she and Roy had and heading out west with their daughters, Joyce and Judy. When they first arrived in Oregon they worked in the strawberry fields and lived in an old chicken coop she had cleaned top to bottom and made livable for a short time. Her biggest hardship was leaving her young daughter, Judy, in the care of relatives while she and Roy carved out a new beginning for their young family in Oregon. Eventually June and Roy made their home in Newberg, Oregon and their son Ronnie was born. June worked at raising their children and was a cook at the Chamber of Commerce. Later June would work at Sartron Electronics. June lived in Newberg for 64 years before moving to Roseburg in 2004. She was a woman of many talents and a deep desire for learning. Through the years, June self taught and mastered many skills such as painting, cake decorating, reupholstering, playing the harmonica and accordion. She was competitive in the best sense of the word. Given the challenge to find the fastest way home she would find the best shortcuts and rarely be second. Her grandchildren love the memories of piling into her small VW bug and heading over to the coast for a day of flying kites and visiting Pixie Land. Above everything June had a deep love for her savior Jesus Christ. More than anything her desire was for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to have a relationship with Jesus. She prayed daily to be an instrument of God’s influence in the lives of everyone around her. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was strong, determined, faithful, and had a twinkle in her eye. June is survived by her two daughters Joyce Pardon (John) of Roseburg, Oregon and Judy Tucker(Don) of Milwaukie, Oregon and her sister Eileen Olson of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She will be greatly missed by her six grandchildren and their spouses, eight great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews who are spread out over Oregon, Idaho, and North Carolina. June was predeceased by her husband Roy Barrow, her son Ronald, and her sisters Martha and Lorine. A viewing is scheduled for Monday, February 22 from 9 am to 1 pm at Attrell’s Funeral Chapels in Newberg. The graveside celebration will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in McMinnville, Oregon on Monday February 22 at 2pm.
