Harriet Anne Moench
September 5, 1927 - May 3, 2016
Harriet Anne Thompson Moench was born to Joel and Helen Lee Thompson on September 5, 1927 in Albany, Oregon, joining sister, Beatrice (Bea). She began enjoying God's reward on May 3, 2016 in Wilsonville, Oregon. Because her father was in the military, Harriet moved all over the United States during her growing up years. When Joel was stationed overseas, Helen would bring the girls to her parents' home in Albany to live. Harriet had many fond memories of time spent at 1106 Ferry. She attended Albany High School but they moved before her senior year to join her father in San Diego where she graduated. While living in San Diego, she was reacquainted with Bob Moench, an Albany boy stationed there with the Navy. They were married in San Diego on March 23, 1947 and enjoyed 50 years of married life together. Bob and Harriet had four daughters while living in Albany: Elizabeth (Libby), Mary Kay, Judy and Nancy. While Bob climbed the corporate ladder at Pacific Power & Light, the family moved from Albany to Portland, Corvallis, Bend, Medford, Oregon to Casper, Wyoming and back to Portland in 1977. Harriet worked hard to make each move as smooth as possible for her girls and made each house a home. She served as Sunday School teacher, Camp Fire Girl leader, Good News Club teacher, Bible Study Fellowship leader, room mother, and volunteered at the hospital as a Pink Lady--to name a few. Harriet's greatest legacy is her Christian example to her daughters and their families. She faced the difficulties of aging with a smile and great attitude. The last two years Harriet was a resident at Just Like Home and the family is especially grateful to Lydia Papp, Ada Sandu and Ana Ciurar for their loving care. Harriet was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, and son-in-law, Don Keller. She is survived by her daughters: Libby Keller, Mary Kay Moench, Judy (Virgil) Askren and Nancy (Mark) Veteto; her grandchildren: Sara & Ben Butler, Tim & Lindsey Keller, Arielle & Patrick Marston, Abbey Askren, Matt Veteto and Rebekah Veteto; and her great-grandchildren: Ella and Nora Keller. Service to be held at Portland First Church of the Nazarene, Portland, Oregon where she was a member for 35 years, on June 2, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bob Moench Scholarship, Northwest Nazarene University or Portland First Church of the Nazarene.
