George Gordon Scott Jr. November 12, 1927-May 7, 2012 George Gordon Scott Jr. passed away Monday afternoon with his family by his side. He was born in Columbus, Montana on November 12th, 1927 to George Gordon Sr. & Lucy Mary (Pool) Scott. He was the youngest of five children. His brothers Chester and James and sisters Frances and Grace preceded him in death as did his parents. Known as GG in his younger years, he graduated from Columbus HS in 1945 and enlisted in the US Navy. Upon completion of his hitch on an aircraft carrier in the South Pacific, he worked as a railroad fireman and enrolled at the University of Montana where he met his future wife, Mary Louise (Pinky) McCallie. After graduating, they were married on June 26th 1953 in Billings, Montana and made a home there. Both were proud supporters of the Griz for the rest of their lives. In 1962, George took a job with Great Western Chemical Company in Portland moving Pinky west with their two children, Patrick and Shannon. A third child, Erin joined the mix in 1965. The family settled in Sherwood in 1968, where George worked their 10 acres for almost 34 years, raising cows, horses, pigs and finally houses. In 1981, Pinky passed away and George opted to stay on the farm and continue their ‘project’. Foothills Estates was the culmination of their dream in 1994. George remarried in 1985, bringing Cheryl Dreyer to the farm. She survives him. They moved off Foothills Estates in 2002 to Woodhaven where they shared many new endeavors such as Operation Babylift, a prison mother’s clothes program and numerous St. Francis Parish projects. George is also survived by sisters-in-law Dorothy Scott of Portland and Patricia Hudson of Ridgecrest, CA, his children Patrick (Cindy) Scott of Silverton, Shannon (Gary) Kelley of Newberg, Erin Scott of Santa Monica, CA, Cheryl’s daughter Rebecca Gifford of Beaverton, 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. Services have been handled by Attrell’s Sherwood Funeral Chapel, a Golden Rule funeral home. The family asks that contributions be made to the American Heart Association and/or Mt Angel Abbey.
