Doris M. Baumann

June 27, 1921 - November 7, 2016

Doris Mae Baumann June 27th 1921-November 7th 2016 Doris passed away peacefully in the hospital with her family surrounding her. She was able to speak with each of her children and her granddaughter Amy.  They each expressed their love for her.  She said that she was ready to go, as she said many times.  Her heart stopped beating and she was lifted up from earth with grace. She is survived by her three children, Carolyn, Steve and Edward. Doris has five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Originally born in Mexia, Texas, Doris met Edgar in Mexia when her cousin introduced them. They married in 1941 and lived in Ben Hur, where Edgar taught school.  Edgar enlisted in the Army and was overseas for two years during World War II. During that time, Doris moved to Los Angeles, California with a cousin and worked until he returned from the war. When Edgar returned, they moved to Kerrville, Texas where Edgar worked for the Soil Conservation service. After taking a vacation to Oregon, Edgar and Doris fell in love with the Oregon country and requested a transfer from the Soil Conservation Service.  Doris, Edgar, Carolyn and Steve moved to Pendleton, Oregon on February 14, 1957. Edward was born in Pendleton later that same year. Doris and Edgar quickly made friends through the United Methodist Church. Doris was a member of the Eastern Star and was active as a volunteer at the Community Hospital. She was a homemaker and devoted most of her life to taking care of those that she loved. She was good cook and the friends of Carolyn, Steve and Edward knew that and often dropped in for dinner. She gave of herself and thought of others before herself.  Her family and friends were her life. She always said"You never stop worrying about your kids". Doris and Edgar moved to Newberg, Oregon in 1993 to live near Edward, Carolyn and granddaughter Amy.  Edgar passed away two years after they moved there. Doris did not want to live alone, so she moved into Pacific Point Retirement Inn in 1996.  She said she was a "scary Cat" and she liked to be around people. She made many friends at Pacific Point and had "a lot of fun", as she put it. Fortunately, she had family close by and she was  "spoiled" by frequent visits by her family.  Doris loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren with unconditional love. They could talk to her about anything and she made you feel better after talking to her. Doris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.  She had a sense of humor that never stopped even on the day she died. She will live in the hearts of all those she touched. Doris's service will be Attrell's Funeral Chapel in Newberg on November 12, 2016 at noon.  All are invited to attend.
