Dora Harriet Birkeland August 5, 1926 – February 11, 2016 Dora was born to Ole and Julia Olson in New Rockford, North Dakota. She was raised on a typical prairie farm in a family that had 9 children, she was the 2nd youngest. After completing high school, she worked her way through North Dakota State University and while there met a young WWII Navy veteran who became the love of her life. December 17, 1949 she married Duane Birkeland. They both graduated from college and moved to Portland, Oregon, where Duane had found work as an electrical engineer with the Bonneville Power Administration. In 1959 they left Portland and moved to a farm near Sherwood, Oregon and continued raisingtheir family there. Dora was a loving wife, a kind and generous mother, devoted grandmother, and friend to anyone who needed one. She is survived by her husband, Duane, of 66 years, sons Douglas, Paul (wife Carolyn), Joel (wife Carol), and daughter Marian (husband Steve), a dozen grandchildren and great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Tigard, Oregon on Saturday, February 20, at 2PM. Gifts can be made to the church building fund.
