Deborah J. Csergei
June 11, 1955 - July 26, 2017
Deborah Jean Baker Csergei was born the daughter of Earl and Verna (Dillon) Baker on June 11, 1955 in Hillsboro, Oregon. She was the youngest of three and loved growing up on their family dairy farm on Bald Peak. She enjoyed numerous fun experiences that many of us today will never know, including being a Washington County dairy princess. She was a member of Hillsboro High School Band and was able to tour Europe, even visiting East Berlin during the height of the cold war. Debbie had a heart for people from a young age and this drew her to ministry. She attended and graduated from Northwestern Christian College with a Bachelor of Science and from Whitworth College with a Bachelor of Arts in church ministry. This as a bold step for a young lady in the seventies to enter full time church ministry. Over the years at church she worked s both Youth Pastor and Associate Pastor. It was while working for The Christian Church of Hillsboro that she ran into her former classmate from high school, who just happened to be her mailman, Jack Csergei. They got married on August 22, 1981. Shortly thereafter, she stepped out of paid ministry to start and raise a family. She had three children over the next few years while continuing to be heavily involved in church and working all sorts of jobs. As her children grew and left the home, Debbie re-entered the ministry, serving as a children's pastor at Harvest View Christian Church, Tigard Christian Church, and Eden Presbyterian Church. She also returned to school and received a certificate in Volunteer Nonprofit Management from Portland State University. It was always her passion to see the message of Christ shared with the children of the church, and she has left a lasting legacy among many of our lives. Debbie is survived by her husband Jack Csergei of Newberg, Oregon and her 3 children; Chris Csergei, his wife Danielle and their 3 children of Costa Mesa, California; Kelsey, her husband Trevor Habig and their 3 children of Sherwood, Oregon and Michelle Csergei of Newberg, Oregon. She is also survived by her brother Doug Baker of Ontario, Oregon and Dottie Kamilos and her husband Charlie of Newberg, Oregon. Debbies final resting place will be at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Laurel, Oregon. Just a short drive from the spot she grew up. She will be among numerous family members, including both of her parents.
