Charlotte L Gunn
March 23, 1948 - February 26, 2022
Charlotte L. Gunn (“Char”) was born on 3/23/1948 in Hillsboro, OR to Harold and Donna Bates (nee Lockwood). She joined older sister Kathy, and was followed by twin brothers, Ron and Don. Char spent her childhood years growing up on the family farm in Gaston where she enjoyed farm life and working on the farm. She graduated from Gaston High School in 1966 and attended Oregon State University (a true Beaver through and though) graduating with a BS in Education in 1970. It was at OSU that she met her future husband, Michael Gunn, and they were married on 7/23/1971. Char enjoyed a storied working career from being an elementary school teacher, to a florist, to a restaurant owner, and finally a legal assistant, working at Mike’s law office. During all these times, she and Mike acquired rental properties as well as flipped real estate. She was also a mother to their son, Derek, and a homemaker. She always found time to attend Derek’s sports games and other family and friend’s activities. Char had a big heart and would always help family and friends. She was diagnosed with dementia around 2014, but still fought that dreaded disease right up until the end. She spent the last 16 months of her life in memory care in McMinnville and passed away peacefully on 2/26/2022. She is survived by her sister, Kathy Anderson of Dallas, a brother Ron Bates or Gaston, her husband Mike of Dundee, son Derek and daughter in law Mandy of Reno, and grandchildren, Dylan and Mariah Gunn, of Reno. She was pre-deceased by both parents as well as her brother, Don. There will be a private graveside service on March 15 followed by a celebration of life/memorial service for Char at The Elks in Sherwood starting at noon on March 15. The address for the Elks is 22770 SW Elwert Rd, Sherwood, OR.
