Betty Irene Bates

Betty Irene Murray, first born of four daughters to J. Ralph and Lilus Murray, was born in The Dalles, Oregon December 14, 1927 and died peacefully at her daughter Janie Bates' home Saturday April 23, 2016 after a long illness. Betty graduated from The Dalles High School in 1945 and attended Linfield College for two years, where she met her future husband (also a graduate of The Dalles High School). She married Glenn Lewis Bates (deceased) on September 5, 1947, and is survived by her three daughters, Evelyn Anne Neasham, Karen Suzanne Bates-Smith, and Barbara Jane Bates. Also surviving are three sisters, Maxine Turner of The Dalles, Doris Brenner of Prineville, and Shirley Etcher of Petersburg, Alaska. She also leaves behind five grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren (one of whom predeceased her), and three great, great grandchildren. A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday April 30, 2016 at Timberline Baptist Church in Sherwood, Oregon. Betty will be buried next to her husband at Parklawn Cemetery on Three Mile Road in The Dalles on Friday April 29, 2016.
