Willard A. Piatt

Willard (Bill) A. Piatt was born on August 10th, 1942 and passed away on August 18th, 2020 after a nine month battle with cancer. He passed away at home with his wife Christie and other family members by his side. Bill grew up in the Coeur D’Alene, ID and Spokane, WA area. He went to Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane. After a brief time in the Marine Corps. he came to Newberg to visit his brother. His Family moved to Newberg shortly after. Bill worked locally in the dry cleaning business, various machine and welding shops and the glazier industry. He retired from Local 740 Glaziers, Architectural Metal and Glass workers union in 2006. Bill married Christie (Ramsey) Schaad in April of 1989. They had a blended family with Bill’s two sons and Christie’s two daughters. Some of Bill’s favorite hobbies have included dune bugging mostly at Sand Lake in the mid-70’s. Bill enjoyed his 1947 Oldsmobile and spent many hours and days working on it and travelling with the Rod Runners West Car Club. Guns were also a hobby for him. The past few years he began reloading ammunition. Bill’s parents Alven and Hazel Piatt preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Christie, sons Brian Piatt of Salem, Larry (Meredith) Piatt (Jenne Lewis) of Salem, stepdaughters Kelly Meza of Newberg, Nicole (Jason) Taylor of Tualatin. Brothers Al (Raynora) Piatt of Grants Pass and Michael (Yolanda) Piatt of Kent, WA, Sister Vivian Townsend of Newberg, brother in-law Randy Ramsey of McMinnville, and daughter in-law Brenda (Ernie) Brown of Bend. Together Bill and Christie shared 11 grandchildren Scott (Robin) Piatt, Karlee (Wayne) Gallipeau, Kammi Schaad (Robert Belknap), Eric Piatt (Jennifer Booth), Kindra Schaad (Ryan Bjur), Bryanna Menard (Rocky Grein), Alvean Piatt (Tawshina Adams), Cierra Menard (Andrew Lewis), Veronica Brown, Ky Schaad (Chloe Hite), and Kale Schaad. Their family also includes 11 adorable great-grandchildren Chloie, Ziya, Abigail, Kyra, Cayson, Joise, Eli, Isah, Ethan, Rayne, and Lyli who will be born in November. In addition to his immediate family he left behind aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who have blessed his life in many ways. A memorial service is planned for October 17th, 2020 at 1:00 PM at the Northside Community Church on Hoskins and Crestview in Newberg OR. Masks and social distancing are required.
