Phillip A. Campbell

Phillip Arthur Campbell, 75, longtime resident of Newberg, Oregon, unexpectedly went home to be with his Lord Jesus on January seventh of 2023. Phil was born May 9, 1947, in Clearwater Florida, to Jeannette Campbell Kirkland and Charlie Harris. Phil was the oldest of six siblings: Nicholas Maxwell (deceased), Deborah Maxwell Hicks, Clara Yarn (deceased), Warren Kirkland and Wanda Kirkland Collins. Phil graduated from Pinellas High School in 1966. He attended three years at George Fox College, where he developed a deeper relationship with Jesus. In 1977 he became a machinist at A-Dec, where he developed many close friendships and was known for his hard work ethic and friendly smile. He retired in 2012 after 35 years of dedication and service. Phil was also known for his amazing culinary skills. He had several jobs as a chef throughout his life. His final job in this field was at J’s restaurant where he blessed the community with his delicious dishes and kind heart. In 1969, Phil met Claudia at Wilkinson’s coffee shop in Berkeley, California where he approached her about the Bible she was reading. After bible studies together and church attendance, in 1970 Phil accepted Christ into his life. Phil and Claudia went on to have three children, Elizabeth Thornton, Ronald Campbell-Payton, and Nicholas Campbell. Throughout Phil’s life he was known for a life of community service and charity. He worshiped and served as an usher at his church home, Northwest Christian Church. He donated to many charitable organizations with his time, money, and prayers. Phil was known in the Newberg community for his huge smile and even larger heart. He lit up a room sharing God's love, joy, and acceptance wherever he went. His life was an inspiration to us all. Phil, survived by his three children; Elizabeth Thornton, Ronald Campbell-Payton, Nicholas Campbell; eleven grandchildren; Brandee Thornton, Skylar Thornton, Derryck Thornton, Jordyn Thornton, Mwangi Campbell, Star Tucker-Campbell, Dominique Tucker-Campbell, Jayden Campbell, Kaylianna Campbell, Layton Campbell, and Maylani Campbell and one great grandchild Braylen Tucker. Phil was a beloved father, grandfather, friend, and neighbor. Please join us as we celebrate his life at Northwest Christian Church on February 18th at 10:00 am, located 2315 N. Villa Road, Newberg, OR 97132.
