Opal Charity Westling Opal Charity Westling was born the daughter of Elmer and Violet (Taylor) Tibbetts on Thursday, July 3, 1930 in the Libbey Township of Minnesota. Opal grew up a country girl’s life. Farming, gardening, hunting and fishing were a part of her daily living. Opal married and had seven children. They moved to Oregon in 1955. Opal worked hard her whole life providing for her family. For many years she worked at the Crab Bowl in Portland then owned her own restaurant in Donald. After working in different restaurants around Yamhill County, she worked at Adec until retiring. She did a lot of volunteer work at the Newberg Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop, and was infamous for bargain hunting and garage sales. Gardening was Opal’s passion, however, and she spent hours working in her yard planting flowers, shrubs and plants. She was a caregiver at heart and helped many friends in their daily living until the end. Opal loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as they brought her years of pleasure and enjoyment. She was a loving, supportive and caring mother who was the true meaning of a matriarch to her family. On Thursday, October 27, 2011, Opal Charity Westling died at her residence when she was eighty-one years, three months and twenty-four days of age. Surviving and left to honor her life are: Her five children, Marvin (Amelia), Larry (Kate), Jerry (Karen), Linda Leedom (George Brokaw), and Laura Shelamer (Mark); thirteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and those who have come to know and appreciate her where she has lived and worked. Her daughter, Sylvia Mae and son, Myron Arnold preceded her in death. Her Funeral Service will be Saturday, November 5, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. in Attrell’s Newberg Funeral Chapel, a Golden Rule Funeral Home, with Chaplain Anne Richardson officiating. Committal Service will follow at Valley View Memorial Park, Newberg. Chapel Viewing and Visitation hours are Friday, November 4, 2011, noon to 7:00 p.m., and Saturday, November 5, 2011, 8:00 a.m. until the time of service.
