Michael Alan Siebert

Michael Alan Siebert, age 54 peacefully passed away at his group home surrounded by family and his caregivers in Troutdale, OR. on Sunday, August 15, 2010, of complications due to congestive heart failure. Michael was born on March 29,1956 to Hilarion “Al” and Inez Siebert in Portland, Or. He grew up in Portland, and lived in Oregon his entire life. During his formative years Michael attended the Portland Children’s Center, a special school for students with disabilities. He lived at home with family most of his life. Growing up Michael enjoyed an active life with family and friends, and was involved in school and family events. Michael loved to travel. Whether it was a camping trip, or long vacation Michael was ready to go. His final wish was to take a trip to Las Vegas to experience the excitement of the city. With support of his caregivers, Providence Hospice, ALSO, and family he was delighted to take a trip to Chinook Winds in Lincoln City to assimilate the city. Michael enjoyed the simple pleasures of life like a good cup of coffee, trip to the park, or going out to eat. Most important, Michael valued his relationships with friends, caregivers, and family. He was a social butterfly and quickly made friends with his endearing personality. Michael loved his job at the Oregon Institute for the Blind, and was adamant not to miss a day of work even when ill. The family expresses sincere gratitude to Adult Learning Systems of Oregon, the Oregon Institute for the Blind, Multnomah County Department of Developmental Disabilities, and Michael’s caregivers for a strong, positive partnership during his later years in life. Michael is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his two sisters, Carol Whitten of Portland, Cathy Yayesaki of Sacramento, CA, five nieces and uncle, Dr. Leonard Siebert of Kirkland, WA.. A funeral service officiated by Father Tom McCarthy, SJ, will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 27, 2010 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Sherwood. A reception will immediately follow.
