Doris Louise Johnson

Doris Louise (Oliver) Johnson, age 96, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 4, 2026, at Arbor Oaks Terrace Memory Care in Newberg, Oregon. She was born on March 25, 1930, in Niles, California, the “surprise” daughter of Manuel and Elvira Oliver. She graduated from Nevada City Union High School in Nevada City, California, then worked in Oakland, California as a receptionist and bookkeeper. She fell in love with Bill Johnson, a handsome sailor who picked her up in his yellow convertible on a blind date. On September 15, 1954, they were married in the chapel on Treasure Island Naval Base in San Francisco. She spent the next 14 years as a Navy wife and mother before they retired from military service and settled in Hillsboro, Oregon. Doris was an active member of Bible Study Fellowship serving as Treasurer for over 15 years. She was an accomplished seamstress and loved sewing entire wardrobes for her grandchildren. From shirts, shorts and pants, to slippers and jackets. She loved gardening and canning fruit and spent countless hours volunteering with Bill at the Hillsboro Senior Center and Oregon Food Bank. Doris was preceded in death by her first born son, James Oliver Johnson, who died on Mother’s Day weekend when he was only two and a half years old. She also was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 70 years, Bill Johnson. She is survived by two sons and their wives; David and Sarena Johnson, and Dan and Karin Johnson; and her grandchildren: Jarrod and Bella Johnson, Jacob and Gina Johnson, Andrew and Jessica Johnson, Matthew and Sarah Johnson, Justin and Megan Johnson, Hannah (Johnson) and Kyle Mast, and Billy Johnson; and 14 great-grandchildren. Doris left her family a legacy of love for Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior she served since the loss of her little boy, Jimmy. She will be greatly missed by all of her family who loved her deeply and by all those who knew and cared for her in her final years. A private, family graveside memorial will be held at Willamette National Cemetery after she is laid to rest next to Bill.
